Players take on the role of castle rulers, who have to defend their fortress from dangers, and in the case of a multiplayer game from other players. A novelty in the series is the extension of the strategic mode. In the game, players have a castle at their disposal, on top of which there is a ballista designed to destroy fortifications and hold back enemy units. Its projectiles resemble characters from the Angry Birds series players plan on where and from what angle to shoot a missile. There are also several types of missiles: from the simplest bolts to flying eagles each with its own unique properties useful in a variety of situations. CastleStorm II also offers combat units their choice depends on the chambers players decide to build in their castle.
